Abstract

 

Abstract

This research had 3 objectives : 1) to study the environment management of Muang Wichianburi Municipality, Phetchabun Province; 2) to make comparative study on the people’s opinions towards the environment management of Muang Wichianburi Municipality, Phetchabun Province classified by personal factors; and
3) to study the problems, obstacles and suggestions concerning the environment management of Muang Wichianburi Municipality, Phetchabun Province.

This study was carried out through Mixed Method Research consisting of quantitative, survey and qualitative research. The sampling group used in this study consisted of 393 persons who lived in Muang Wichianburi Municipality, Phetchabun Province and who had the right for the election votes. Questionnaire was used as a research tool to collect the data with the value at reliability at 0.974. The statistics used were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, F-test, One Way ANOVA and Least Significant Difference: LSD to compare the differences of the mean in pair. Open ended questionnaire was presented in the form of written answers below the checking questionnaire. The qualitative research was applied In-Depth Interview with 8 key informants in this study. Data analysis used content and context analysis techniques.

 

The results of this study revealed as follow:

1. The people’s opinions towards the environment management of Muang Muang Wichianburi Municipality, Phetchabun Province, in average showed the value at high level ( =3.42, S.D. = 0.603). When considering each item, it was found that the item of Management revision showed the middle level. Item had showed values at high level were: policy setting on environment, operation planning on environment, operation and performance, and verification and correction.

2. The result of the comparative study on people’s opinions towards the environment management of Muang Muang Wichianburi Municipality, Phetchabun Province, showed that people of different sexes in average took no different opinion, so the hypothesis was denied. For the people of different ages, educational levels and income per month in average took different opinions significantly at 0.05 level. The hypothesis was accepted.

3. The problems, obstacles and suggestions concerning the environment management of Muang Wichianburi Municipality, Phetchabun Province, revealed that people living within the area of Muang Wichianburi Municipality did not understand the policy and the projects on solving problems in concrete form. The projects operation had not been done as mentioned in the policy because the period of time for the operation was not proper, for example, providing less time to do the projects.     For the suggestions of this study, it was propose that: people living in Muang Wichianburi Municipality, Phetchabun Province should be enhanced to know about the policy of the projects in order to solve the problems on environment. Documents for public relations or the Municipality itself should be arranged to produce some useful documents on various projects on environment so that the distribution should help people to have opportunities in participating, in focusing the problems solution themselves and learn to realize problems situations and the need of the community solution. Moreover, the people should receive more benefits from the government’s projects in various aspects and could take those information to be the base for the next problem solution.
